Medically, he is sound; mostly stable. He still has bouts with what is termed FUO – fever of unknown origin – but time and again tests verify he is infection-free and it is likely the thermostat in his brain on the fritz. His body temperature immediately reacts to heat and his core temperature can rise abruptly. His body can be cooled effectively by changing clothing, cool rags, removing blankets, ice packs or just turning the fan on, but it takes much longer to cool him down than it does to heat him up, and his temperatures can climb to the mid 103F range which takes a toll on him, and can be very dangerous.
Plans are being made for a relocation to Minnesota – where we can be near family and friends and less-severe heat, although it is a trade-off with the cold of the tundra in the wintertime. One can add clothing, coats, mittens, a fireplace, warm tea, etc. It is much tougher to mitigate the searing heat.
Minnesota has far more rehabilitative benefits for TBI and Visual Impairment than does Arizona, and these programs are being thoroughly investigated, as well as medical providers, etc.
Many of you have asked how you can help, and a family friend created a platform for a fundraising campaign to help with the relocation, housing in MN, therapies, equipment, etc. At this point, this kind of help would be amazing, but without something in place for us to have access to the funds without hurting “means-given” benefits (a.k.a. SSI or Medicaid) we are at a standstill. Even small amounts hitting a bank account is accountable. Looking into Special Needs Trust, or something along those lines, which is tricky without the funds for a Lawyer. A GofundMe Campaign, and a donated website for Taylor’s updated information, recovery strategies, other links and ways to help are ready, and just waiting for the safe place for donations.
If you have any insights, please email me. For anything via USPS, there is a P.O. Box in Phoenix. Taylor gets his correspondence at the PO Box as well, until our relocation to MN when that becomes possible.
There a few surprises from Taylor coming in the next few days…working out the tech behind audio files and slideshows to share on this site, and you will be the 2nd to know when it’s all figured out!
Love to all.
More to come….
We are all smiles here….”In the presence of God there is a fullness of joy!”
