A Call For Action – Help Keep Taylor out of Nursing Home

January 2017

Dear Friends of Taylor Stark,

At this time of year, we pause in gratitude for the many blessings we have, and the generosity bestowed upon us to see us through.

There is nothing more important than a safe and secure home. Taylor Stark knows this well, as his home-space for the past five years has also served as a full holistic rehabilitation center, which provided Taylor and his mother Lisa, a place to focus full-time on his recovery.

There is a serious transition coming in March, and it is necessary to find a new home-space for recovery, as room and board is no longer covered for them to continue their work. Lisa must find care for Taylor and return to work to support their household.

A Supplemental Needs Trust was set up for Taylor’s needs, which can be used for anything regarding his care and well being, but as a stipulation of the Trust, cannot be used for food, utilities or rent. A home can be owned by the Trust for Taylor, but rent cannot be paid toward someone else’s mortgage. One goal is for a down payment for a home for Taylor, but for now they are just trying to hire solid coverage for Taylor (hopefully someone who can continue all the therapies Lisa does for him) and find a home-space.

Placing Taylor in a group home is not an option at this time as it would cease his forward progress, and things are moving for him in leaps and bounds. Within the year he could be eating food, using braille and other assistive technologies with proficiency; critical skills that will certainly open doors for his future. That can’t stop now.

Nursing care, personal support care (PCAs), therapies, clothing, equipment, medical supplies, household goods, prescription medications not covered by insurance, etc., are just some of the expenses for Taylor that are out of pocket. These are things Lisa has been providing with the minimum wages paid by the County for taking care of Taylor, but now she must also provide the roof over their heads and utilities, etc.

Would you please consider a donation to Taylor’s Trust – which sits empty?
