Roller-Coaster

By

Okay, so honestly – yesterday was challenging as a parent.  Not much fun at all.  Taylor was running a fever, 103F – 104F  pretty much all day, regardless of the number of ice packs involved. His heart rate was twice what it should be, pretty much all day.  He was unresponsive pretty much all day.  His medical staff was stumped as to what was going on. None of his blood work or cultures were showing any infection.  He was scheduled for an MRI to see how the brain is doing.  It may just be his brain telling his body to run a fever, without infection.  Clotting will cause a fever too.

There was no sleeping last night.

This morning, walking through the hospital campus my mind was whirling.  Things don’t seem good…I was freaking out.

Today his vitals are fantastic:  heart rate fifty points lower; BP is better than his nurses’; temp is 97F – 98F and breathing on is own, pretty much all day!  And he was very responsive.  He was awake and moving around. At one point the nurse was repositioning him on his side, and before she could get the pillow in behind him, he pushed off the bedrail and moved himself onto his back again.  (I don’t think it’s that comfortable for him on his side with that broken collar bone, etc.)  He had physical therapy today, but she took it easy on him.

No conclusive results from the MRI yet; a lumbar puncture must be performed tomorrow for diagnosis (tomorrow because he has been on blood thinners).  So we wait.

Another day on the roller-coaster ride.
But he’s feeling much better today.  🙂
