Sunday Morning

Taylor is sitting up in the chair, and has now been completely off the ventilator for the better part of four days.  The pulminologist just told me the only reason he still has the vent collar at all is to allow for humidified air, and to keep the stoma open in case of an emergency.  He is otherwise receiving NO assistance for his lungs/breath.

Also, his sodium levels are within normal range.  They changed some of the solutions that are a part of the antibiotic IVs he receives, and some of them actually had sodium solutions associated with them.  No more.  And his sodium is looking good.

Also, 🙂  he has not run a fever for at least 24 hours, and when he did, it was 101.1F and it didn’t last long.  We just turned the fan on.

Also….the metal in his mouth to immobilize his jaw was removed yesterday by a plastic surgeon, so his jaw is no longer wired.  From what I can see, he is only missing one tooth, and it’s on the side of his mouth.  His front teeth are fine.

He’s reaching for stuff, lifting his arms and grasping hands which is considered purposeful movement.  I’m suspicious he’s trying to get a hold of his trache, but so far so good.  He reaches for it when he is about to cough.  Wouldn’t we?

Good morning, everyone!
