Previous brain surgeries (last summer) were successful in patching the cranial floor behind the frontal/upper sinus. The patching remedied leaking of cerebral spinal fluid that seeped through the fractures in his skull.
As the brain heals, it changes shape a bit, or its position within the cranium. This has happened with Taylor, and it has exposed new fractures that are leaking, also enabling communication of bacteria, etc., between the sinus and brain.
He will undergo neurosurgery in the morning, another “bi-frontal craniotomy” to repair the fractures, by lining the midline/anterior part of the cranium with tissue from his *other* thigh.
Then in three or so days he will undergo a second-phase of the repair where surgeons access the sinus and cranial floor from the bottom, and line the underside with sheathing tissue.
He is still battling the sodium, but it is coming closer to within range as evidenced by him giggling at overheard conversation. 🙂
He is not talking, but he’s full of smiles and thumb’s up.
