Taylor Stark: A Tough Mudder

By

We have a close friend who in 2009 sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle crash.  With a broken back and shattered pelvis, he was told that if he survived he would likely never walk – or live an active life.  After months in rehab, he went home still injured and ailing.

To beat the odds, Jim began training to compete in a local Tough Mudder; an incredibly difficult obstacle race.

Competing in Tough Mudders became his regimen of rehabilitation, and he is now a World Record holder for having competed 50 Tough Mudders worldwide.

Jim was recently featured as one of Tough Mudder/MetRX stories of inspiration, and is declared one of their “Legit Strong” crew.

Jim called last week to tell us about the interview, and that Taylor’s name came up.  Jim explained that when asked by Tough Mudder/MetRx who inspires him, he told them Taylor’s story.

He went on to say that MetRx is very interested in meeting Taylor.  They are interested in learning more about the rehabilitation from his injuries with the prospect of utimately sponsoring him to train for and compete in a Tough Mudder.

I reminded Jim of Taylor’s vision impairment, etc., and that completing a grueling course like TM seemed – well – too much.  Jim vehemently disagreed.  He has known Taylor for years (he is the same friend who once taught Taylor to fly an airplane) and explained that a team would be in place expressly to help Taylor complete the course.  He will need to jog three miles as part of this, in addition to the myriad of obstacles which vary from course to course, but a team would help him through it all, every step of the way.

So whenever Taylor is ready to start training for something of this magnitude – MetRx wants to meet with him.  They are very interested in sharing stories of healing and triumph such as his.

Taylor’s rehabilitation has kicked up a notch.  His therapists are aware of the Tough Mudder and his trainer at the Disability Empowerment Center has trained other disabled participants for this race.

It is down the road, but in his crosshairs.

After all, Taylor is already legit strong, and for those of you who knew Taylor before his accident, this is right up his alley.
