He’s baaaack! Holy cow – I walked in this morning and Taylor was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, speaking clearly and ready to go home! He is back to joking around, jamming to music and wanting to be up and doing stuff! Sodium has stabilized to within normal limits and he is ready to ROCK!
The troubles that landed him in the hospital were the sole result of his sodium level dropping outside the desired range (due to a medication/dosage tweak over the past two weeks).
The dose has been adjusted, and levels have remained stable for the past five blood draws which happen every four hours. YAY!
The brain is otherwise fine. The air pocket spoken of earlier was unchanged from previous scans, and of no concern.
Yesterday, Dr. Joganic, Taylor’s plastic surgeon, came in to see Taylor and talked a bit about the upcoming surgery. He spoke of how he has been working on the mock reconstruction, and that the parts that have been modified (on the polymer replica) have been sent to Denver for computer modeling which enables surgeons to see the anticipated end result.
Taylor listened intently, nodding and grinning widely.
As Dr. Joganic left, he added that the surgery will be happening in the next few weeks.
This morning, discharge orders were compiled for Taylor to go home. As the neurosurgery resident was wrapping things up, he got a call from Dr. Joganic. It seems Dr. Joganic may want to perform an “inter-cranial procedure” prior to Taylor’s discharge.
“inter-cranial procedure?” That means inside the cranium, right?
So discharge is on hold for now, and the neurosurgery resident assured us he would know more in a couple hours. What he does know, is that Dr. Joganic would like to “repack the frontal sinus.”
I was a little…concerned about the prospect of T going into surgery – maybe later today. I feel like one needs to be more mentally prepared for that sort of thing.
Taylor, on the other hand, just sat up, pulled his knees to his chest, stretched a little and sat there grinning, widely.
No problem.
Taylor is ready to get this show on the road!
