Taylor had a busy day yesterday, with a lumbar puncture performed in Radiology, and a CT scan immediately thereafter.
The cerebral spinal fluid collected during the lumbar puncture looked good; in fact, his white cell count was “1”, which is great. And considering the extent of his injuries, he could have had a 5-9 and docs would not have been surprised, or terribly alarmed. Well, maybe a little concerned, but not terribly alarmed.
Cultures were taken and are so far growing nothing. Another great sign.
The CT scan looked good too – no obvious bad stuff going on. They adjusted/opened his VP shunt (the ventricle drain for excess fluid in his brain) to allow more draining, and we should see changes in responsiveness within 12-18 hours if pressure on the brain was an issue.
He is sleeping in, so no real morning assessments have been made yet, but he looks great, and has already provided a few of his “uh-huh” and “uh-uh” responses to questions. I just want to hear his words…his voice…his Taylorness.
When Ron comes in to tag off with me around noon for his time with T this afternoon/evening and tomorrow morning, he will know much more by then of how he is doing. Even I am looking forward to that Journal Entry.
Taylor has a little time with Chaplain Sandy this morning, so I had better try to wake him a little…
