The first of two surgeries was completed at 11:45 this a.m. Surgeons feel they successfully filled/sealed *multiple* breaches in the cranial floor. Fractures were present in the posterior and anterior portions of the cranial floor that have been leaking and communicating with sinus, yet there were no visible signs of infection. Cultures were collected.
The vp shunt was “externalized” or placed on the outside for now, to better monitor cranial pressures during the healing process.
Although the surgical team is confident all holes were successfully plugged, they still feel it necessary “to be safe” to perform Part 2 of this neurosurgical series in a few days. This includes filling/sealing the same areas from beneath the cranial floor. This will be done endoscopically – through the nose, from the bottom.
The facial reconstruction surgeon was one of three in the operating room today, and he said the models of Taylor’s face are due back from the computer modelers on Tuesday – and the surgery will still take place, but is being postponed for healing.
Thank you for your prayers. Please keep them coming…..
