Update 04/21/12

I just met with the infectious disease doctor who was brought into his medical team early last week.  She explained that while the cerebral spinal fluid drawn from yesterday’s lumbar puncture indicated “no organisms present” that would be because of all the antibiotics he has been administered.  It was an “abnormal” result in the csf.  There are cells present that indicate infection that has been partially treated.

The MRI shows two areas that ‘lit up’ with contrast indicating inflammation or infection as I mentioned yesterday.  The two areas: the back brain – looks like meningitis; the front brain – could either be inflammation from the injury or a different infection entirely.
Taylor began treatment for meningitis last Wednesday, per the infectious disease doc, and it takes two weeks of treatment.  If there is another infection in that frontal lobe, treatment regiments are for up to six weeks.  Still nothing has grown on the cultures.

His sodium levels are very high, as well, which in and of itself can account for decreased responsiveness. High sodium in conjunction with all the other issues going on, are why his days have been very quiet.

I sure wish I had other news…

Keep praying – there are many different battles he’s fighting.
