T has been busy with therapies – he is pretty much booked all day until about 3:00 p.m.
Aqua-therapy has been added to his repertoire, and until his surgeries he’ll be in AT a couple times a week. The pool was in the shade (thankfully) and it is NO splashy frolic. This is serious stuff, and such a great workout.
July 19th is the scheduled date for the frontal sinus surgery, and the neurosurgeon will be attending so he can assist in whatever repair necessary. They may take a sample of fluid near the brain; there is a pocket of fluid (pretty common in TBI) they want to culture just in case that is a cause of his rogue fevers.
The scheduled date for the oculoplastic (left eye orbit) surgery has yet to be determined. All the surgeons still want to put their heads together before anyone does anything. Taylor’s most recent plastic surgeon is also involved now.
Taylor is in good spirits. Your messages to him are still read daily. If you have a memory to share, please do. We are doing many memory exercises, and long term memory is pretty rock solid.
He really knocks his PT out of the park everyday. One of the exercises he was asked to do this week is a “standing push-up” which is more like a 45 degree angle push-up. He places his hands on a bar about waist high, walks his feet back until his body is at 45ish degrees, and his hands are chest-high. He was asked to try and do six. He completed his 6th, brought himself to standing, and put his hands in his pockets, like what’s next? PT asked if he wanted to do more (he hasn’t been doing much arm-work, mostly walking and stairs, etc.) and he nodded and put himself into position again. He pumped out about 10 more, but he had crossed one foot over the other so he only had one foot on the ground. PT noticed, and asked him to do the easier version for now. He completed about 30 push-ups, among many other exercises.
The included photo was taken yesterday on our way to aqua-therapy at a rehab facility across town. VERY cool facility. It is enormous, and completely set up for the disabled – off all kinds of disability. It has a climbing wall…we will be visiting that soon.
