Taylor’s level of responsiveness changed a bit over the last few days, which prompted a CT scan last night.
The CT indicated a pocket of air in the crainal cavity which has grown as compared to the same type of scan performed last week. This may be due to continued leaking through the skull fractures, which means the area has not yet healed/sealed off from the outside world as expected. If this is the case, he is at great risk for infection.
His neurosurgical team will be watching him closely in ICU and performing more tests over the next few days. They came in this morning and completely closed his PV shunt (peritoneal ventricular shunt) and will be scanning again later to check for fluid accumulation. Taylor has complained of a salty taste in his mouth, which is another indicator of continued CSF leak.
BUT no one knows anything for sure…
